Q: Sarah Kathryn, I am not a player, and consider myself an overall gentleman. When it comes to dating, however, it's not my strong point in life. I can not seem to hold a conversation with a girl, because my mind just goes blank. Only occasionally do I seem to stumble upon the right words. To give you a little bit of background, I have been in the military for the past 4 years, and this problem is a new one for me. Before, I could engage anyone in a good conversation. Needless to say, I rarely struggled in asking for a girl's number. If you could just help me with an opener to break the ice, I'm sure my success should quickly rise back to social standards - and I won't feel so socially incompetent!
A: First of all Anthony, thank you very much for your service in the military. After 4 years in the military, I can understand why you're programmed to only talk to men! It might take a while, but you should warm up soon with the ladies. Try the following openers to warm up your chops:
- Are you from here or another city?
Ask lots of "tell me" questions. Any open-ended questions will keep a conversation flowing:
- Tell me about your family.
- Tell me about your work.
- How is your job treating you?
- How was your weekend?
- How do you spend your weekends?
Additionally we've found that as men age, they become more attractive and more confident. The women become aggressors at times! You should check out David Deangelo - he has some great advice! Best Regards.
